Zaki started working with his father in 1985. These were not easy years due to the ongoing political unrest in Lebanon. Therefore, the need to start a new operation in another country spurred the adventure in the USA. After a lot of research, many visits and several meetings from state to state, it was decided that Nashville, TN should be the headquarters for the new company expansion.
Thus, MKD International was incorporated in the summer of 1988. Zaki moved to Nashville to run the new company with Nazih who had just finished his education in NY. Later on Kamel joined his brothers to lead MKD International into new territories.
Under the vigilant guidance of their father, the fourth Daouk generation started a career, which has proven itself a great success. That success was not easy to achieve; for the first five years MKD International faced serious difficulties that could not have been overcome were it not for the wisdom and experience of the father as well as the honesty, skill and hard work of the sons. They had to face some giant firms, which they had difficulty in competing with. Their professionalism, persistence and good reputation which they invested in their business paid off.
MKD International Inc. in Nashville was the first merchant to introduce European and Asian paper and board to the US market with full inventory for immediate availability. The reputation of MKD as a reliable and efficient provider of quality paper grew steadily to become a well known and respected paper merchant amongst paper mills and printers.
Now Nabih and Zaki maintain the business in Lebanon with their loyal staff. While the demand of paper has shifted, MKD Sal focuses on special grades that remain resilient. The activity encompasses Lebanon and the MENA region.
Nazih, Kamel, and Zaki combine their professional attributes to continue building lasting partnerships with customers and suppliers under the best paper experience in the industry in both markets.
